Comments

  • Should have asked what he thought of Trump coming back as Pres in August. (Per Q.)

  • Interesting, it wasn't the fact that he made a comment about Bernie Sanders winning to the Nazi invasion of France, because he's a blowhard idiot, that actually got him sh*tcanned. It's funny that fellow hack Colbert doesn't mention that either. Good news is that there's enough footage to get Colbert himself canceled with this things that he said in his past. You got to love when the moonbats end up feasting on their own. It's coming Colbert... Just wait. Zero sympathy... Zero.

  • I've come to the conclusion that each of these guys act like they are doing a TREMENDOUS favor for all of us trash who are so fortunate to watch them

  • What about when he compared Bernie's NV victory to the Nazi Conquest of France..... ridiculous not to bring that up in the context of his leaving. After all, he was out before the SC primary.

  • I sent Chris' team some suggestions over the years and all but one appeared on his show. I said the Republicans are dying just like the Whigs died, their time is over, call them out. He did.. There were two more I forget (!) There was one he did not do; the Republicans are holding onto power by accepting right wing crazies, by accepting RACISM, call them out. He didn't However, a week or two after my message, he looked at a piece of paper, and hesitated. I think now his staff told him to do it, but he hesitated and said "You know I don't think all Republicans are racists. I really don't." There were a few more sentences and he left the topic. I tried to send more but I'd simply been using the "Contact" button on his web screen, and it was no longer for him but for all of MSNB. I could not find another way to "contact" him. I do miss him.

  • I am not particularly interested in rehabilitating Chris Matthew's. His news analysis is not unnique. It is the network standard line. He is no more insightful than anyone else on cable news. This is just another step in the process of rehabilitating one of the standard middle to middle right commentators who brings us more of the same old griping but who has no new thought to offer and no new insight. MSNBC talking heads range from Mehdi Hasan and Chris Hayes on the leftish side to Stephanie Ruhl, and Chuck Todd types who are fallen away Republicans. Most of them are not impartial but tilt right in their opinions and subtly read the news leaning heavily on their right hip. These never Trump conservatives think that Reagan was a hero and the Bush family were a glorious ruling dynasty. Sorry, I'm not having it. Our politics are burdened with old answers to deepening problems. We need to change direction entirely. The same old ways of thinking are not working and rehabilitating an old commentator who professes to accept his failings but who is caught up in the past isn't going to enlighten the news consuming public about how to get out of the social and econonmic trap we are in now. I have turned left and more of us are making that left turn toward more fair economic policies and better government with new ideas for new problems.

  • Jeffery Tobin on CNN was even more astonishing. They both deserve some credit...being inappropriate with women doesn’t make any man inherently evil and deserving their lives and legacy destroyed.

  • I miss Chris Matthews. I watched Hardball every night.

  • Christ looks great for 75 even for 50 he looks great. I miss his show.

  • You would never EVER see a republican behave so bravely and responsibly. They’re all cowards and idiots.

  • So you’re telling me, he wasn’t removed for comparing Bernie winning the Nevada Caucus to Germany invading Paris? Pathetic.

  • why isn't there anybody in congress doing that now? well because chris matthews did everything he could to stop them from winning the neoliberal candidate by lying on TV about progressives every day and scaremongering people about bernie setting up communist death camps in the central park. chris matthews isn't the worst person there ever was, and is 10x better than trump, but this whitewashing of his legacy is just disgusting.

  • I miss Chris for his candor/ insight and knowledge of the American public.

  • somebody give this man some marches to organize for voting rights

  • This is what a decent person does. He owns his mistakes.

  • “Why haven’t I fallen in love with you yet?” That’s it? Whoop de fucking doo! What am I missing here?

  • Such a wonderful interview! Thank you for your honesty and transparency

  • I love Chris. I don't know what he said but I'm glad he took responsibility. I miss having him on the show though.

    • All he said to her, while she had this lovely dress on was, "Why haven't I fallen in love with you yet? To a colleague..so...he wasn't crude or mean or yucky so..just inappropriate.. If it were me, I'd say Thanks Chris, but don't go there, dude,we got work to do on the show, man! Chris would apologize.. we'd move on ! What's the big deal really? He's a good guy!

  • I miss you Chris Matthews.

  • I started watching MSNBC for Chris Matthews. I watched him resign. I still miss him. He was a guest on Lawrence’s show recently- made me miss him more. I still record three shows on MSNBC but I watch more CNN now. I hope he comes back on election night.

  • Welcome back Chris Mathews. Nobody is perfect, nobody. We all make mistakes. And CM is one of the good guys among us mortals. He is not at all a criminal. Trump is. Barr is. Many many fascist supremacist Republicans are. Shame on those who won't see this. We are in a fight for the life of our democracy, for America. We need every one of our fighters on the field and CM is one of us. Keep speaking out Chris. Do not hide.

  • Owning up to the truth should be recognized especially these days after 4 yrs Bull shit

  • Always interesting

  • Wait, Chris Matthews just made offensive comments? Meanwhile FOX news is paying millions of $ in settlements for actual assault cases.

  • Mathews never let a guest answer a question? No pundit ever liked the sound of his own voice like Christopher!

  • I miss Hardball and he should have never left! At least he is still remembered and that reporter is not!

  • The Average American lives on 3 to 400% Less Income than they did in 1967. Bubble gum was 2 for a Penny 1 cent becomes 2 cents = 100% increase 2 cent becomes 4 cents = 200% increase the Average Pcs of Gum is over 25 cents. 4 cents becomes 8 cents = 300% increase 8 cents becomes 16 cents = 400% increase 16 cents becomes 32 cents = 500% increase ... remember there were 2 pcs of Gum .... 2 x 32 cents = over 1000% increase ..... now do that increase chart to Wages 1967 $1.25 per hour until you reach $7.25 per hour and see what your get! Pathetic... your income is what POWERS THE RICH and FASCISM and NAZIS and KILLERS on the STREETS going MAD with Anger and Frustration.

  • How evil asking a women "Why haven't i fallen in love with you yet?" ...................what happened to just rolling your eyes and moving on

  • The chumptard has on idea the word "Noble" even exists.

  • Chris Matthews said: "WHY HAVEN'T I FALLEN IN LOVE WITH YOU YET?"......... This is the comment that made him quit his job....

    • For REAL? So WHAT!? That's not even bad really..rather flattering and inappropriate but c'mon, the guy quits and she's all.. I'm sorry but this is just bullshit 😅!

    • Seriously? That’s it?

  • Last time I heard someone taking responsibility for their big mistake is when I read Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg say “It’s all my fault.”

    • The Emperor of Japan said it to General McCarthy. Though it wasn't true. Of course that's a different country and he's not a politician.

  • Is he wearing lipstick?

  • LOVE Chris.

  • This is something a republican could never do, say they were wrong and admit responsibility. No denials. People respect it a lot more.

  • Wow! He said something dumb. So a career ends. What horsephooey!

  • People who own up to their mistakes or missteps are grown ups and responsible humans. Not so much anymore in today’s trumpian GOP culture

  • I totally miss Chris. His voice is needed. Also Stephen, you have Katie Porter, AOC and others who call out the BS on the other members often. I just wishes it wasn't only the freshmen, but seasoned ones who did it.

  • I'd like for him to not be back. It was good when he was gone!

  • Profound respect. Then we elect someone (trump) who would never humble themself like the way Chris just did.

  • I miss Chris....

  • What an honest, somewhat fearless man. For him to admit to the comments he made and just walk away is quite noble. When you do something wrong it's how you react to it and he really did what any decent man SHOULD do! I applaud Chris Matthews he's absolutely correct! 👏🏼👏🏼

  • I respect your response.

  • I've never liked Chris Matthews. I thought he was a loud-mouthed jerk when he had a show. Every time I tried to watch it, I had to turn it off; couldn't take the yelling. And now that I've just found out about his history of inappropriate comments and behavior, I realize my reactions were right on the money. There was nothing believable about his comment to Colbert about being honorable and candid. Puh-LEEZ. I can't imagine why anyone would want to read his book, much less buy it.

  • Some people talk about truth/candor in action, and some just do it. No wonder I'd admired Chris from early on.

  • Yawn

  • Chris Matthews should go back to the 80s and stay there.

  • Humility and integrity. Bless Chris.

  • Always liked Chris Matthews and miss Hardball for exactly the kind of interview I’m watching. Great stories and a deep knowledge of history. I accepted his show of accountability even though it ended one of my favourite parts of the day.

  • Still miss Chris Mathews

  • I remember a time when Stephen Colbert used to give people a grilling regardless of their political leaning. Ahhh... such distant memories now!

  • Giving credit to someone who knew he'd lose? Personally I'm just glad his Republican light, NeoLiberal ass is gone. Here's hoping all the other Corporatist apologists at MSDNC find a reason to leave on short notice too.

  • MSNBC sucked 8% less when Chris got the boot. His hostage video was hilarious.

  • I thought it was the fart.

  • But if someone looks like crap. You’re doing them a favour. Smarten up…. ✌️😷

  • How about promoting minorities? This guy’s victims? It’s not like he made people uncomfortable once. It comes naturally to him. But you need to make the white man... richer? Really? Are you serious? I’m all for people apologizing for what they did, but this guy is proud. Can you seriously say he’s changed his ways? Really?

  • Why would you give this guy a platform? Seriously? All the people you could promote, and you’re promoting this guy?

    • Only angels? Did he commit a crime or something? Have some perspective.

  • he left because he compared Sanders a Jewish senator winning primaries to the nazis invading france

  • He looks better than he did when on tv: perhaps more relaxed and less stressed.

  • Joy Reid is great but I definitely miss Chris. Such a unique perspective on politics.

  • Honestly, whatever his comments were, they didn't hurt the subject. All they did was show where he is. He recognized that was a negative thought pattern that serves no one; and he realized he needed to step down from his platform. That is a step toward progress. Before you all kill me for my take, consider this - as a woman, I am not going to play victim, and I won't put any other female in that role. Vilification will not help change perceptions. We have to have more productive conversations to experience deeper change as a society.

  • Chris Matthews is 75? Holy shit I thought he was like 55. Maybe 60. Pretty soon 105 is gonna be the new 50.

  • Biden is a puppet put in office by corrupt politicians and fake news, the people will never respect either!!!!!!!!

  • Fake news selling propaganda for Democrats everyone in America knows this and laughs at them!!!!!!!

  • Chris -self leadership is true leadership. Well done

  • This guy straight up said that if Bernie Sanders won the Dem nomination, he'd be executing reporters in Central Park. Fuck him.

  • Trump was raised in a home where grifting was a virtue.

    • Trumpcoin. The only cryptocurrency backed by the Integrity of our President, Donald Trump.

  • Chris Matthews is a waste of time.

  • F the reporters appearance issue... wtf about the WW2 comments referring to Sanders. That was sheer lunacy!

    • He buys into establishment beltway narratives too much and too often speculated on the horse race. Rarely covered real issues. He really enjoys the theater of it, which could get irritating.

  • Wow a man actually taking responsibility for his disgusting behavior. Savor this. Won't happen again.

    • Can you explain why you think it was disgusting? This is a matter of proportionality here. What Matthews said was inappropriate and unprofessional, but disgusting? There are people who are so delicate, so tender, so easily offended that it would probably be best to avoid saying hello to them, but just start with "I'm sorry, how are you?" Avoiding them all together is a better policy of course.

  • God! I miss Chris Matthews on MSNBC. Will buy his book.

  • Why has Chris Matthews crawled out from under his rock? Nobody wants a jerk like him around, after he completely smeared Bernie last year. Rot.

  • This guy is a loon: "I have my own views of the word ‘socialist’ and I’d be glad to share them with you in private. They go back to the early 1950s. I have an attitude about them. I remember the Cold War,” he said. Matthews continued, “I have an attitude towards [Fidel] Castro. I believe if Castro and the Reds had won the Cold War there would have been executions in Central Park and I might have been one of the ones getting executed. And certain other people would be there cheering, okay?” Then Matthews made the connection to Sanders, claiming ignorance about whether or not the candidate did, in fact, support violence and public executions. “So, I have a problem with people who take the other side. I don’t know who Bernie supports over these years,” Matthews said. “I don’t know what he means by socialist.”

  • 75 and youthful.

  • I remember when Stephen used to challenge the main stream narrative now he’s everything he used to make fun of. I mean even his audience has completely flipped. “I love Chris” shut up please.

  • Wealthy Globalists like George Soros and the Rothchilds are evil and want to control the world and want to take all your rights away like your right to own guns and your right to free speach. Globalists are responsible for election fraud and the virus.Globalist also control the Democrats, Mainstream media, sports, Hollywood and social media. Globalists are responsible for election fraud and the virus. Globalists removed Trump because Trump wants the people of the world to have the power and freedom. Go to the website X22report.com for the truth. They have daily reports

  • It is calming to see Chris Mathews again! I missed his cheery face. As well as his wisdom!

  • Unfortunately the tactic of publicly shaming politicians into doing the right thing no longer works. Because the voters who need to hear it the most will never receive it in their bubble news feed.

  • Talk to ed schultz

  • Good to see a positive journalist.

  • Stephen, why did you give Chris Matthews a platform on your show? He took responsibility? He did so only in his 70s and after he was forced out at MSNBC. He looked so happy to be back in the limelight and to be accepted by you. I was glad to see him go.

    • You presume to know stuff only he and manic know.

  • Did he say that this happened 40 years ago??? WTH?

  • I miss Chris Matthews too!

  • "I'll develop some disease and say I have to resign." -Joe Biden

    • Former White House chief of staff, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, said that President Trump "is the most flawed person" he's ever known. The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life," Gary Cohn, Trump's chief economic advisor, said, "It's worse than you can imagine. An idiot surrounded by clowns. Trump won't read anything--not one-page memos, not the brief policy papers; nothing. He gets up halfway through meetings with world leaders because he is bored. And his staff is no better. Kushner is an entitled baby who knows nothing. Bannon is an arrogant prick who thinks he's smarter than he is. Trump is less a person than a collection of terrible traits. No one will survive the first year but his family. I hate the work, but feel I need to stay because I'm the only person there with a clue what he's doing. The reason so few jobs have been filled is that they only accept people who pass ridiculous purity tests, even for midlevel policy-making jobs where the people will never see the light of day. I am in a constant state of shock and horror." Steve Bannon told Michael Wolff, "I cannot tell you how many times Trump has looked me straight in the eye and lied to me." If you like, I can quote General McMasters, John Bolton, and General Mattis.

  • Nice lipstick, Chris. Appreciate your candor.

  • Chris looks awesome. 70, what? I miss Hardball, I wish he had a new show. Good man

  • Homer

  • My respect

  • Sorry for the Stop of hardball

  • And I still have 1 million ballots didn’t have to use still in the warehouse.. Go Chris

  • We all know foreign nations meddled with our elections. That fact alone, should void our elections. We should be at war, with any nation that tampers with our elections!

  • That old fart leaving is a good thing

  • Democrats are not playing hardball politics. They could learn a thing or two from Chris Matthews! They need to read the Republican Senators who are taking credit for bills they voted against. Etcetera

    • Chris Matthews is a political hack. Yes the Dems need to grow a pair and play hardball. This geriatric old white man who constantly pushed for "centrism" and "moderation" is not the one who's gonna push the "centrist" Dems to take action and get shit done.

  • Nah, he compared Bernie to Hitler. F him

  • Don't worry, Chris. I'll never defend you. You should have a doctor look at that hard ball.

  • Chris Mathews took accountability. Come back , Chris. You and Al Franklin.

    • Nah Chris can stay in the gutter where he belongs. Al Frankin I wouldn't mind seeing back.
